Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many organizations adjusted their practices and provided relief to people in need throughout their communities. Listerhill assisted these organizations by featuring them and donating $500 to their efforts! This article features Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Shoals.
The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Shoals is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Most of their staff were able to successfully work remotely while others came into the office on occasion. They also purchased hand sanitizer, face masks, disinfectant supplies, and practiced social distancing.
Some of their matched Bigs and Littles are like family to each other. During the proceeding school year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Shoals provided children with eMentors or Big Brothers/Big Sisters with weekly homework help, social interaction, physical activity and respite for parents/guardians. Volunteers also acted (and continue to act) as watchdogs for children who may be at risk of abuse and neglect.
Applying to become a volunteer is the best way to contribute to the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Shoals, but financial support is also needed to keep their programs going. They always welcome donations of copy paper and other office supplies.
